Optus caught in spam trap

OPTUS email servers have been placed on anti-spam lists, creating havoc for the carrier's internet customers.

An Optus spokeswoman confirmed that the carrier had taken steps to have its email servers removed from block-lists designed to stop unsolicited email messages flooding their systems. "Optus can confirm it recently advised its customers that some may be experiencing problems when emailing certain email providers and other service providers. "Some companies have now unblocked Optus emails and we are working to restore the remaining as a priority," the spokeswoman said. Optus said it had recently discovered that a few customers were using its mail servers to send large quantities of unsolicited email messages. Optus said it had removed the customers from its network in accordance with usage policy.Yahoo, which operates one of the world's largest web mail services, confirmed that emails originating from Optus email servers were currently being flagged by its anti-spam system.
