Rider sweeps 5-4A swim titles

All told, Rider swimmers won first place in eight of 10 events with senior Stephanie Callan claiming three wins — individually in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly and as part of the 200-yard medley relay.

Rider senior Houston Yarberry had two first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and as a part of the 200-yard medley relay.

Burkburnett grabbed the other two top spots with Alex Morani winning the girls 200-yard freestyle and Drew Cain taking the boys 200-yard individual medley.

Yarberry and Lady Raiders sophomore Lindsay O'Donnell took boys and girls district swimmer of the year honors while Raiders coach Oyvind Zahl was coach of the year.

Dear Mr. Ventura,

And, of course, from some perspectives, it does not. When you consider the potential devastation and the corrective measures the planet is taking to our burning of fossil fuels you realize that current political and economic realities are trivial compared to the melting of the the icecaps, the rise in sea levels and global temperatures and the desertification of the Amazon rainforest. But, then again, none of us are climate experts either--so, why should we believe anything.

I suppose our only real conclusions we can draw from these complex and huge global issues and political conundrums is that they are beyond our individual comprehensions. Is this what you mean by..."Does it matter?" --that we should go back to our lives and enjoy the blooming of spring, the changing color of leaves in the fall and sunsets all year around.

Cyber crooks go phishing

The cash might be coming from your bank account, and they could be using the computer in your den to commit their crimes.

The enigmatic company, which the security community has dubbed ''Rock Phish,'' has rapidly grown into a giant of the Internet underground by perfecting a common form of Internet crime known as ''phishing.'' The thieves capture people's personal computers, then use them to send phony e-mail that tricks other users into revealing private financial information.

''Rock is the standard. They're the Microsoft,'' said Jose Nazario, a researcher at security company Arbor Networks. ''Everyone else is a bit player.''

As big as Rock Phish has become, though, it is a sliver of a much larger problem.

During the past few years, a professional class bent on stealthy online fraud has transformed Internet crime, rendering obsolete the hobbyist hackers who sought fun and fame.
